We understand it may
take some time for patients to get used to any new appliance, so please feel to
give our office a call if you have any questions or concerns. There is always someone on call after hours and on the weekends
to answer your questions. Here are
some troubleshooting tips:
Call our office right away! We will schedule you an appointment to put the bracket back
on. Even if you are coming in for your
regular adjustment visit soon (even if it’s the same/next day!), it is very
important to call our office and let us know so we can be prepared to have the
right set up to repair the broken bracket. If the bracket has come off the
wire, make sure to bring it in to your appointment. If the bracket is still on the wire and is bothering you,
you may use wax to cover the bracket until you come in to have it repaired.
Sometimes with teeth movement you may notice a wire getting
long in the back. Give us a call
and we will get you in to clip the wire.
If you are unable to come in right away, you may use wax to cover the
wire. When you put the wax on, be
sure to dry the area very well to ensure the wax sticking.
If the expander comes loose, on one or both sides, please
give our office a call right away to set up an appointment to glue it back
in. To avoid this, stay away from
sticky foods (jolly ranchers, caramel, gum) and frozen things as these may
cause the expander to become loose.
If you are having trouble turning it, we will gladly set up an
appointment to review the instructions.
If you ever run out of rubber bands, please call our office
and we can make sure to have them ready at the front desk to be picked up. We can even mail them if you are unable
to come in! If you are ever unsure
of how you are supposed to wear them, let us know and will show you how!
Elastics are a crucial part of orthodontics and can determine the length of
treatment time. So we want to make sure you are wearing them correctly and have
It may take a few nights of wearing the headgear to get used
to it. If you ever feel the
headgear is too uncomfortable or it has bent, please call us and we will set up
a time for you to come in so we can adjust it. If the bands on the back teeth ever start to bother you, use
wax to cover the check side. Be
sure to dry the area very well to ensure the wax will stay on.
Do not be surprised if it takes a couple weeks for your
mouth/cheeks to get used to the Herbst.
Also, you may have a slight lisp the first couple days. If ANY part of the Herbst comes loose
or comes off, give our office a call right away and we will repair it. If a screw comes off, please bring it
with you to your appointment. You
may use wax if needed.
If one/both of your retainers gets lost, broken, or thrown
away, call us right away! We
may need you to come in to take a new impression. There is a charge for lost broken retainers. Also, if you feel your retainer needs
to be adjusted we will gladly do that for you for no cost.
